My first race here in Washington State. It has been a crazy two months with my new home and job. The ferry commute from Vashon Island is a huge time eater and the new job has a very steep learning curve. I am stressed to the max!! No time for running/training. But I am free on the weekends and today I take yet another ferry trip "off island" but this time for fun. Thanks to Barb Fox for cluing me in about the race and all the races that the Fort Steilacoom Running Club puts on. This 5K/10K is sponsored by the Roman Meal bread company. They have a Roman soldier here handing out loaves of bread. Nice sized race here at the High School. With the building open for registration/warmth/bathrooms and the start and finish on the track, the whole event is well organized and caters to the runner. Not real optimistic about my finish time, but in fact I do very well, a mere six seconds slower than my last race, three months and a lifetime ago.
